I decided to shake things up a bit for the 8th grade library orientations this year. Most of the students were here last year, so they didn’t need the entire spiel. We quickly hit the highlights, and then set out to have some fun.
I showed them a few examples of “shelfies,” and then set them free to browse the stacks and take pictures of their own. I didn’t pull any titles, and you must prepare for your shelves to get absolutely trashed after this activity. But it was worth it to watch them have so much fun, and the pictures make great library displays. I will definitely repeat this activity, and perhaps set up a photo booth next time!
